Prof. Pia Raanani Appointed Head of the Felsenstein Medical Research Center

Prof. Pia Raanani selected to head the Felsenstein Medical Research Center, a Tel Aviv University Center at the Rabin Medical Center.

Prof. Pia Raanani is a full professor on the regular track in the Department of Hematology at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University. She is a graduate of the Hebrew University–Hadassah School of Medicine in Jerusalem. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Beilinson Hospital and her fellowship in hematology at the Sheba Medical Center. She pursued advanced training at Hammersmith Hospital in London in the field of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

Prof. Raanani served as Director of the Leukemia Service at the Sheba Medical Center, and in 2004 joined the Davidoff Center at Beilinson Hospital, where she established the Hematology–Oncology Inpatient Unit, which opened in 2007. She spent several months as a visiting professor at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

From 2010 to 2014, she served as Head of the Department of Hematology at Tel Aviv University. Since 2013 and to the present, Prof. Raanani has served as Head of the Hematology and Hemato-Oncology Division at the Davidoff Center, Rabin Medical Center. In addition, she serves as head of the Applied Hematology Laboratory and Head of the Laboratory for the Study of Telomeres, Telomerases, and Exosomes at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center.

Between 2014 and 2025, she served as Chair of the Research Grants Committee of the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Since 2016, Prof. Raanani has served as the Israeli Ambassador of SOHO – the Society of Hematology Oncology, led by the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the international hematology journal Acta Haematologica.

Over the past decade, Prof. Raanani has initiated and organized international conferences in the field of hematology, and in recent years has done so in collaboration with the international SOHO organization. Prof. Raanani has nearly 300 scientific publications in the medical literature. The research laboratories under her leadership have received several prestigious research grants, including grants from Tel Aviv University.
