Prof. David Rubinsztein on Autophagy and Neurodegenerative Diseases
Neurodegeneration research
Prof. David Rubinsztein, Visiting Professor at the Gray School of Medical Sciences, delivered a lecture as part of the School Seminar Series at Tel Aviv University, presenting his research on “Autophagy and lysosomes in neurodegenerative diseases”.
In his talk, Prof. Rubinsztein described groundbreaking work demonstrating the central role of the autophagy pathway in the degradation of intracellular, aggregation-prone proteins that contribute to neurodegenerative disorders, including Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and various forms of dementia.
He highlighted his pioneering approach to autophagy upregulation as a potential therapeutic strategy for neurodegenerative diseases, and presented drugs and newly identified biological pathways that may be leveraged to promote this process and advance future treatments.
