Tal Bamberger Awarded Foulkes Foundation Fellowship

Tal Bamberger, an M.D. Ph.D. student at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University, has been awarded the Foulkes Foundation Fellowship. The prestigious fellowship is awarded to outstanding students in M.D.-Ph.D. programs and is administered in Israel through the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It aims to support the next generation of clinician-scientists and promote excellence in medical research.

Tal conducts her doctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Elhanan Borenstein in the Department of Human Genetics and Computational Medicine.

Her research combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational biology to understand how the microbial communities living in the human body affect health and the development of disease. She develops computational methods that integrate different types of biological data to uncover new mechanisms underlying interactions between the microbiome and the human body, with the goal of contributing to new approaches in personalized medicine.

In parallel, Tal studies the role of the microbiome in aging as part of the Dog Aging Project, a large-scale international study following thousands of dogs to better understand the factors that influence healthy aging. Insights from the project are also expected to contribute to the study of human aging.
