devastated by the loss of Dr. Saja Fadila

We are devastated by the loss of Dr. Saja Fadila, who was taken from us far too soon.

A brilliant and dedicated scientist, Saja completed her PhD in 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Moran Rubinstein in the Department of Human Genetics & Computational Medicine. She then continued her scientific journey at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, supported by a prestigious EMBO fellowship.

Despite her short career, Saja made remarkable scientific contributions, publishing six manuscripts in leading journals including Journal of Clinical Investigation, Neuron, and Epilepsia, and co-authoring a patent with Prof. Rubinstein based on one of their discoveries. A manuscript stemming from her PhD work on Dravet syndrome was just accepted for publication in Nature Communications.

Saja envisioned a future in academic science and dreamed of establishing her own independent laboratory after her postdoctoral training. It is heartbreaking that her dreams will not be realized, and that the scientific community has lost such a bright and promising star.

كانت سجى عالِمة مميزة ومخلصة جدًا لعملها، أنهت درجة الدكتوراه عام 2024 تحت إشراف البروفيسور موران روبنشتاين في قسم الوراثة البشرية والطب الحاسوبي. ثم واصلت مسيرتها العلمية في مختبر مجلس البحوث الطبية لعلم الأحياء الجزيئي (MRC LMB) في كامبريدج، بدعم من منحة مرموقة من EMBO.

وعلى الرغم من قِصر مسيرتها المهنية، تركت سجى بصمة علمية متميزة، نشرت ستة أبحاث في مجلات رائدة، من بينها Journal of Clinical Investigation وNeuron وEpilepsia، كما شاركت في تأليف اختراع علمي مع البروفيسور روبنشتاين استنادًا إلى أحد اكتشافاتهما. وقد تم مؤخرًا قبول بحث نابع من عملها في الدكتوراه حول متلازمة درافيه للنشر في مجلة Nature Communications.

كانت سجى تتطلع إلى مستقبل في البحث الأكاديمي وتحلم بتأسيس مختبرها البحثي المستقل بعد مرحلة ما بعد الدكتوراه. ومن المؤلم للغاية أن أحلامها لن ترى النور، وأن المجتمع العلمي خسر عقلًا لامعًا وروحًا واعدة.
