Laureates of Dan David Prize 2017

The Dan David Prize is an international honor, endowed by the Dan David Foundation and headquartered in Tel Aviv University. Annually, three przies of $1 million each are given to outstanding figures who made remarkable achievements in selected fields within three time dimensions-- past, present, and future. This year, the selected fields are Past- Archaeology and Natural Sciences, Present- Literature, and Future- Astronomy.

In 2017, the Dan David Laureates for Past- Archaeology and Natural Sciences are Prof. Svante Pääbo from Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany and Prof. David Reich from Harvard Medical School in the United States. Prof. Pääbo pioneered the study of ancient DNA by being the first person to extract DNA from Neanderthal bones. Prof. David Reich is also recognized for his contributions to the study of ancient DNA through his computational discovery of ancient intermixing between Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals.
