Prof. Moshe (Shiko) Parnas, PhD, a member of the Department of Neuroscience and Brain Disorders at the Gray School of Medical Sciences and the Sagol School of Neuroscience, has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor.

Prof. Parnas completed his PhD studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and conducted his postdoctoral training at the University of Oxford, where he was awarded the European Molecular Biology Organization and the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences Long-Term Postdoctoral Fellowships. He previously received an ERC Starting Grant and currently holds an ERC Consolidator Grant.

The Parnas Lab uses the fruit fly as a model organism to study how neural circuits encode information and support behavior, learning, and memory. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the team modulates the activity of single proteins and neural circuits in behaving animals and examines how these manipulations affect flies’ perception, decision-making, and behavior.

In particular, the lab investigates a novel phenomenon in which G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) alter their activity in response to changes in neuronal electrical activity.
