Bringing a bit of light, in the form of color, to people in this difficult time

Volunteering during the war

04 December 2023

Prof. Leah Rosen, Department of Health Promotion, School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, has been involved in making art cards for soldiers. During the war, she organized kids from her congregation, Kehillat Yedidya in Southern Jerusalem, to make cards for injured soldiers.

Prof. Rosen did the calligraphy and the kids did the rest. These kids are in the army now. The cards have been reproduced, by fine art printing, after the war broke out on Oct. 7. The cards have been distributed them to injured soldiers in various hospitals – Hadassah Har Hatzofim, Sheba, Ichilov, and Hadassah Ein Caren.

Prof. Rosen has invited local artists to donate scans of their art, and used these to make a set of small cards (business size cards) for distribution to soldiers in the field. Thousands of cards have gone out, and some even got to soldiers in Gaza. Prof. Rosen has also made small framed pictures for people who have had to leave their homes. The team uses the same images as those for soldiers, adding several more, framing them, and distributing them in local hotels where the evacuees are currently living.
